The American Red Cross Northern California Blood Services Region is pleased to announce that it will begin accepting blood donations from 16-year-olds with written parental consent.  A 16-year-old donor may donate at a blood center providing that the donor's parent reads What You Must Know Before Giving Blood and What You Must Know About NAT, and signs a parental consent form.  A parent package will be available for high school blood drives.

In addition to the 5 blood centers, the American Red Cross holds blood drives throughout Alameda, Contra Costa, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties daily.  Click on FIND A DRIVE above to locate one near you.

Why are we doing this?

To ensure that our donors are properly identified in Red Cross records, are not currently disqualified from donating, and can be reached for follow up if needed.

What is acceptable identification?

The preferred identifier is a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or a Red Cross blood donor card.

For the safety of your children and the blood supply, children may not accompany parents in the collection areas. Also, young children may not be left unattended in the waiting area. We will be happy to re-schedule your appointment. Thank you for your cooperation!
